  Friendly staff, lovely food

  I stayed at 13 Coins, Bang Yai two nights with wife and baby in February 2010. We felt very welcome from arrival, and the staff was just great to us during the days we stayed there! Our room was a bit dated but large enough. Comfortable beds. All in all OK. Breakfast was just lovely! So was the other meals we had at the hotel's restaurant as well. The hotel is quite far away from Bangkok city centre.

  one to be missed

  I needed to be in Bangkok & was tempted by the web site gallery of the hotel on Asia Rooms so booked a one night stay & that was one too many. The hotel was run down, dingy, dirty as was the room which was summed up by the broken light fittings hanging out of the wall by there wiring. The bedding was grubby, the bathroom grim if you wanted a shower you could stand in the slippery bath while avoiding the broken tyles & have your refreshing cold shower hot was not an option. It only got worse when we went to the restaurant for a badly cooked-prepared meal that was inedible, we had booked bed & breakfast but can not review that as did not even go into the restaurant for a coffee.

  Must have nice a long time ago

  Got stuck in the area after a problem with work and found this hotel via a major online booking service. It was about 1km from where I was working so seemed ideal. First impressions when I go there nearly made me try somewhere else but I thought never mind I am here now so I went in. The place is old and run down with just about everything needing maintenance. However the staff were really nice and even told me to cancel my booking online at 1,100 baht because if you pay cash at the hotel its just 700 baht. I was tired and hungry so went to eat at the restaurant and the food was surprisingly good. Returned to my room, only 5 (all Thai) channels on the TV, the remote didnt work. The air was cold but really noisy. The curtains had holes in them but nothing overlooked my room so I didn't care at that point. Bed linen was worn but ok. The bathroom was just about clean enough but didnt really feel comfortable enough to have a bath so a shower and a few hours sleep later I went down to breakfast. Again the food was surprisingly good and the staff were all lovely but really slow. The building was obviously grand and elegant when it was new, but now it is old and neglected. I would like to give the place 2 out of 5 because the food was good and the staff were nice but I cant because the place is just so rundown and below standard. If all you can afford is 700 Baht and you want some nice (inexpensive) food then try it but otherwise stay away.

  Well Located and great staff

  If your a traveler that spends their time in a hotel room watching cable TV and expect 5 star well stop reading. But if you want a clean very well located hotel with great staff and food then read on. The hotel is 1976 and I suppose 5 star back in its hey day. The hotel lacks a coat of paint and is a little tired but is very very functional. Rooms are large clean and serviced daily. Air conditioner works perfectly. Located 400 mtrs from Central Westgate Bang Yai (best kept shopping secret) and from the new Purple rail link to the heart of bangkok, makes this the best located Hotel in the area and priced accordingly. We had 2 stays there 7 days and then 8 days. We just needed a clean bed, hot shower and breakfast and the rest our days were full of site seeing.
