Viajes El Corte Inglés views sustainability as a commitment that involves achieving its corporate objectives, keeping in mind the impact of its activity on society. To fulfil this mission, within the strategy of the El Corte Inglés Group of Companies, Viajes El Corte Inglés aims to integrate the concerns of its different stakeholders into its everyday business and relations among stakeholders.
In 2021 we drew up our First Sustainability Master Plan 2021-2025. Purchase experience, digitalisation and sustainability are the foundations of this project whose ultimate objective is to develop our activity while respecting the 10 basic principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism. We are gearing towards sustainability as one of the strategic pillars of the future.
In addition, we continue to make progress in approving our network of suppliers by sending a questionnaire to a selection of commercial partners through which they sign on to our Code of Ethics. Moreover, we have launched a project in collaboration with commercial partners to obtain greater knowledge on their sustainability management policies and ESG criteria to evolve toward a more responsible tourism.
In February 2017, Viajes El Corte Inglés signed the WTO's Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
Viajes El Corte Inglés, as part of the El Corte Inglés Group, is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, which means we follow all of the principles regarding ethics, respect for human rights and the labour, environmental and anti-corruption commitments included in this international code.
In this period, the company has demonstrated its firm commitment to sustainable development by implementing several projects and actions. Since 2015, we have also focused on achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
As a member of the Tourism and SDG Group created by the Spanish Global Compact Network, Viajes El Corte Inglés has driven actions aimed at contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and transforming the tourism industry into a more just, ethical and sustainable sector.
These actions included:
In line with its transparency objectives, the Group has created an independent internal body called the Regulatory Compliance Function that reports to the Board of Directors.
This body is in charge of establishing organisation and management models that include the oversight and control mechanisms to which all El Corte Inglés Group executives and employees are subject, and which allow the company to advance toward best corporate governance practices. In 2019 Viajes El Corte Inglés earned the EcoVadis bronze medal in sustainability for the second year in a row, an achievement that only 40% of the companies evaluated attain.
To achieve this rating, EcoVadis carries out a meticulous evaluation of social, ethical, environmental, etc. criteria to score and recognise the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of aspiring companies.
Viajes El Corte Inglés certifies the measurement of its carbon footprint
The environmental strategy of Viajes El Corte Inglés is framed by three programmes aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals that have been integrated into the Sustainability Master Plan (2021-2025), which outlines our strategic lines of action in the field for the coming years.
Our commitment to the environment has driven us to improve our environmental performance and that's why, among other projects, in 2021 we have certified the measurement of the greenhouse gases that we produce in the course of our business under the UNE EN ISO 14064-1:2012 standard.
Viajes El Corte Inglés has achieved the Seal from the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition (MITECO). This recognition reflects the effort of Spanish organisations that calculate and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions generated by their activity.
